abstract = "Optical remote sensing is considered one of the best ways to
elaborate land use and land cover maps. Clouds are the bigger
problem that can occur during the image acquisition if it is going
to be used for mapping. This derailing happens because of the high
reflection of clouds that unfeasible the surface detection. This
paper evaluates the improvement provided by increasing the
temporal resolution, through overlapping image areas from two
different orbits, to collect points in order to use them in the
developing of land cover and land use maps. The study area was the
municipality of Sumar{\'e}-SP, located in two Landsat 8 orbits
(orbit 219 and 220). 40 images were used to comprise the period
between August 2013 and July 2014 (19 from first orbit and 21 from
the second orbit), in which were done 80 sweepstakes of 100 points
to cloud contabilization. The proportion of clouds remained the
same (33%) using one orbit (16 days image interval) or both (8
days image interval), meanwhile the free cloud points using the
two orbits doubled. When collecting points in the Landsat 8
overlap orbit area, it is recommended the use of both orbits
because there will be more cloud free points to surface
identification.",
